Guppy and Hannibal spent a fair amount of time working on Sunshine yesterday, and she is currently resting in one of the beds.

She could probably do with some gentle company.

Sunshine asleep

While Rae is still asleep, Dr. Hannibal Lecter is keeping around much of the time.

He's sitting in a chair, seeming to doze or outright sleep, watching over Sunshine which whatever thin thread of consciousness there is beneath his closed eyelids.

"How's she doing?" Jonathan asks quietly, so as not to wake the patient, hovering by the door. "I saw her... arrive. Tried to help, a little, but then you were there and I'm no doctor."
cook_the_rude: (Pondering your continued existence)

"Luckily, I am," the man in the chair says, opening his eye.

He probably wasn't completely asleep.

"She is healing. I noticed you tried to clear some of the debris off her."

"Debris." He smiles with bitter humour. "Good description. I'm glad she'll be okay."

[personal profile] cook_the_rude 2013-08-25 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"What else should I call it?" he says, with a little smile and shrug. "It was not exactly human remains, from what she told me. They were dead vampires, long dead, technically."

He stands.

"I'm sorry. I am still getting used to Milliways. It gets odder with time."

He gives Jonathan a rueful little smile.

"You're from one of the more mundane worlds, then?" Jonathan asks. "I know all about vampires, except ours don't leave bodies behind when you kill them. What did you do with the bodies, by the way?"

cook_the_rude: (**smirk**)

[personal profile] cook_the_rude 2013-08-25 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Everyone's vampires are different," the man says, with a little smile. "These were blood and gore, and a very capable young lady from Security took them away to a cell because apparently, we have no morgue. Really, what bar ever has a morgue!"

He smirks at Jonathan, amusement plain.

A figure darkens the door, and whatever lights illuminate the infirmary suddenly seem to struggle to do their job.

The Prince stands and watches the sleeping woman, an expression of longing and sorrow plain on his face.

Until he registers the man sitting beside her bed. His brow darkens, his mouth set in a fine line, his jaw tense.

'How is she?'
cook_the_rude: (Actually really very deeply concerned)

Re: Sunshine asleep

[personal profile] cook_the_rude 2013-08-25 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
The man opens his eyes, never having been asleep. Instead, he was pondering blood, and that which the dead vampires were made of.

"On the mend," he says, his voice taking a crisp, self-assured tone. He is the doctor, it asserts.

He stands.

"You saw my note, I take it?"

Re: Sunshine asleep

[personal profile] vojvode 2013-08-25 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
There is a moment's hesitation and then a reply.

'Yes.' He tears his gaze away from Rae and focuses on the doctor.

The dark gaze plays over his figure, and there is a pressure on his thoughts.  Too orderly.  Too proper. Too... Precise.  Especially for the scenes he was replaying.

'Who attacked her?'

His hands curl into fists, utterly unconsciously.

[personal profile] cook_the_rude 2013-08-25 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
The man's eyes are a light brown that is almost maroon, and he looks straight into the dark ones.

"Vampires from her world," he says. "They were dead on arrival, or shortly after."

Blood and gore in his mind are replaced, at the pressure, by a row of doors, with bronze plaques on. The one which the man opens now is labelled 'Our Vampires Are Different'.

Re: Sunshine asleep

A swarm of bats emerges from the door, disappearing as quickly as it came. The thought did not originate in Hannibal's head, and a quirk of the newcomer's eyebrow lets him know that.

'She is very good at what she does.'

The pressure switches, coming as if from above. Someone is peering into the memory palace as if it were a dollhouse, lifting off the roof and casting an eye over the contents just beneath the surface.

The dark gaze never waivers. It makes sense that a doctor would not be disturbed by such gore, but he gets the distinct impression that is not the whole tale.

'My apologies, doctor.' He dips his chin in greeting. 'Vlad Tepesh. A friend of the lady's.'
cook_the_rude: (Oh really?)

"Dr. Hannibal Lecter," the man says, nodding back.

He tilts his head to look at Vlad. "And she is. You even say that as somebody who likely never sampled her baking."

There is a little smile, but no judgement or further remark. And through the uncovered corridors of the memory palace, a stag calmly wanders.

Kate spies the notice on the board and hurries to the infirmary to see if Rae is all right. When she gets there, she's sleeping — as is Dr. Lecter. She's less averse to waking the latter, however.

"How is she? What happened?"

She keeps her voice pitched low. She'll come back to see Rae once she's awake.

Dr. Lecter gives her an owlish little blink as he opens his eyes.

"Kate," he says, straightening up from his slumped posture. "She is battered but will heal. Her world happened. I don't know how much you know about it?"

She tears her eyes from the hospital bed long enough to locate a chair.

Re: Sunshine asleep / Autor

[personal profile] herr_bookman 2013-08-26 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
After acquiring his twenty captured pieces of sun from Mia, Autor booked it to Sunshine's infirmary room to set them up. He rounded the corner--and stopped, nearly biting his tongue, when he saw Dr. Lecter.

Just as he did when witnessing her attack, Autor waits, watches, and then turns on his heel to head to the hallway. Crossing his arms, he leans on the wall to think. Does he know her elemental affinity? He will, if I use these.

Frowning, he peeks in at the broken occupant of the bed. Swallowing his sigh, he whispers to his sylladex. "Clouds which stain truth's rising day, by her sun consum'd away."

Warm enough to bask in, and bright enough to immolate a vampire. Autor begins to cart his sun jars inside, four at a time.

Dr. Lecter seems to be sleeping, but when Autor sets up the jars, he opens his eyes and says, in a quiet voice, "I should have thought of putting up some full spectrum lights."

He sounds almost offended at his own oversight.

Well, that answers that question. Maybe. He doesn't say anything as he lays out the first of the sun jars on the night stands; just nods. The next couple of pairs, he sets on seats which he drags around.

On his last trip to pick up jars, however, he pauses. "How is she?"
cook_the_rude: (Doctor Lecter is prepared and ready)

Re: Sunshine asleep / Autor

[personal profile] cook_the_rude 2013-08-26 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Quite injured, but healing," Dr. Lecter says. "Not life-threatening, luckily, but several painful fractures, plus concussion. Knowing her, I am sure your bottled sunlight helps. When she is conscious and gets hungry, I will make her a broth of Chinese medicinal herbs."

Re: Sunshine asleep / Autor

[personal profile] herr_bookman 2013-08-26 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Autor nods gratefully for the report, and retrieves the last five jars. He sets one aside and stands on yet another chair. Then he starts screwing a thick hook into the ceiling, to suspend captured sunlight in glass and a macramé net.

He wipes his sweat off with the back of his hand. "You're very well-trained."

"I'm a doctor," Dr. Lecter says, giving Autor an odd look. "Badly trained doctors will be taken out of circulation, for the common good. Of course I do my best!"
