Guppy and Hannibal spent a fair amount of time working on Sunshine yesterday, and she is currently resting in one of the beds.

She could probably do with some gentle company.

"You need to work on your compliments," Dr. Lecter says. "That one was better suited to Winston, one of my friend Will's dogs."

Autor's lips quirk against his will. "Fair enough," he says softly, looking up from his book. "I am glad you are skilled enough to stabilize her injuries. Thank you for doing so."

He screws up his eyes to read his page again, and then closes the text entirely.

"I know you want to thank me," Dr. Lecter says, mildly. "But any doctor ought to be able to do that. Unless their doctorate is a Ph.D. in Assyrian archaeology or the like."

He winks at Autor, as if encouraging him to try again.

Autor draws back, ruffled. He'd like to ask if Dr. Lecter is this difficult with everyone, but that's just pointless grousing. "You neither need or desire my acknowledgement."

"But I thank you for your gauche gratitude," Dr. Lecter says. "You mean well, for once."

Autor grins at him, quick and light. It feels wrong. "Yes, I do."

He turns back to his book again, trying not to look at the lady asleep in the bed, or keep track the rate of her breathing--now eased.

"She will be well again," Dr. Lecter says, mildly again.

Autor hesitates, and then nods again. He lifts his book and curls around it, indicating that he'll stick around until that is the case.

Dr. Lecter closes his eyes again, sagging somewhat in his chair.
