Hannibal Lecter, visiting post

If anyone wants to see Lecter, the opportunity is there.

He has tubes all over the place, and a sensor alarm in the bed that alerts medical staff should he try to bugger off or jump up at anyone, so you're probably quite safe.

Guppy will be keeping an eye on him for the first 48 hours or so, but feel free to have visiting medics come in to relieve him.]

"Much better," Hannibal says, with a little tired smile.

Autor doesn't smile back, though he wants to--which again surprises him. "Do you happen to know how long you'll be in here?"

"I'll be laid up for two weeks maybe, even though I do hope I'll be allowed to leave the infirmary for my own room when the drainage is out," Hannibal says.

"Good heavens, two weeks," Autor says, shaking his head. "I'll count that as a respite from you, then." He grins, and indulges in his tea again.

"So she got your lungs but missed your heart, then?" he says, pursing his lips. He'd like to imply that it's a small target, but something stops him; perhaps it's just too rude to pick on a wounded Hannibal.

"I'm afraid she did," Hannibal says. "Even though I do like and respect her greatly."

"Ha!" Autor says, startled into a laugh. "I've seen how you treat the people you profess to like. Why did she shoot you?"

"My future plans don't include her," Hannibal says, calmly. "I gave her a chance to just walk away, but she wouldn't. She pulled her gun."

Autor frowns fiercely. "That sounds like a threat to me, Dr. Lecter."

[cook_the_rude]

"Autor, haven't you realised that I never do threats?" Hannibal says. "If I say something, I mean it and will carry through with it. Had she just left, I wouldn't have had to take measures against her."

[herr_bookman]

Autor blinks, surprised again. "I'm shocked you're so forthright about it," he murmurs. "So you really did plan to kill her. Huh. I would have pulled a gun, too, if I'd had one."

He sips his tea again, emptying the cup. "This is all just an inconvenience for you, isn't it."

"If she hadn't pulled a gun, then she could have left the way she'd come," Hannibal says. "And yes, it's quite inconvenient to be laid up like this. I don't need all this time to make my plans."

"No, she couldn't have," Autor argues, clutching his empty cup. "She saw you the way you are--no one walks away from that unscathed. I bet she would have tried calling for help as soon as she did walk away."

Autor raises a brow. "Plans?" he inquires, knowing Hannibal probably won't indulge him with details.

"She already called 911 before she entered my house," Hannibal says. "That is a given. I was relying on that."

[herr_bookman]

"Why were you relying on that?" Autor asks, running his thumb across the rim of his cup. "You didn't actually want her to die? I can't imagine you wanted to be caught."

[cook_the_rude]

"I was leaving anyway," Hannibal says.

[herr_bookman]

"You really did respect her," Autor murmurs, and then pauses. "Hannibal."

He stares at his cup. Autor has eaten his food, and said his name--what else is left?

"Yes?" Hannibal says.

Pause.

"I did. I never wanted her to come to any harm."

[herr_bookman]

"No, but you likely harmed her anyway, or at the very least threatened her," Autor says, wishing he had more tea. This feels like a two-cup conversation.

"Excuse me, not threatened, but promised harm to," he says. "It's just like what happened with Will Graham. Thank God you don't love me; it's guaranteed pain."

"Who says I don't, in a way?" Hannibal says.

Pause.

"He was there when she shot me."

[herr_bookman]

Autor blanches. He nearly drops his teacup, barely catching it by the handle. "No," he says, hand going to his throat. "You don't."

He shudders, shaking his head. "Wait, that doesn't make sense. If he was there when she shot you, how much damage did you actually do to him?"

"He's from my past," Hannibal says. "Several weeks."

Autor's relieved Hannibal didn't touch the love subject again, but now he can't stop thinking about it. Oh, damn it!

"Ah, I see," Autor says, adjusting his glasses and trying to calm himself down again. "So he was here in Milliways. Do you know if he knows what you're about to do to him?"

"He now knows what he is going to do to me, and getting away with," Hannibal says. "At least until ten minutes ago. Alana will have told him everything."

[herr_bookman]

"It's not all about you, Hannibal," Autor says, with a soft smile. It's a terrible lie; in this one case, it really is all about him, and Autor knows it. "And perhaps she won't, just to preserve the timelines."

[cook_the_rude]

"She is very angry," Hannibal says. "Of course she will. And what is more, she has nothing to say to change the time line as it is. Will will do as Will has done, and succeed as he already did in my time line."

He slowly shakes his head, and sighs.
