Hannibal Lecter, visiting post

If anyone wants to see Lecter, the opportunity is there.

He has tubes all over the place, and a sensor alarm in the bed that alerts medical staff should he try to bugger off or jump up at anyone, so you're probably quite safe.

"She is very angry," Hannibal says. "Of course she will. And what is more, she has nothing to say to change the time line as it is. Will will do as Will has done, and succeed as he already did in my time line."

He slowly shakes his head, and sighs.

"You don't have to keep relieving it," Autor says, furrowing his brow. Oh, great, now I'm giving him advice, too? Wonderful. "Whatever this Will does, it's already done for you, so there's no need to re-experience it now."

"However, in here, I can talk to him again," Hannibal muses.

"I don't know if he'd like to talk to you," Autor says, adjusting his glasses again. "Especially given what Alana will have told him."

"I am sure he will, of only to find out about his own future," Hannibal says.

[herr_bookman]

"Don't hurt him," Autor says, and then draws back, clutching his cup. "Well, more than you normally do, anyway."

"If I had a choice, I'd never hurt him," Hannibal says.

[herr_bookman]

Autor snorts quietly. "You're telling me you don't control your actions?" he says, shaking his head. "No, Hannibal, you always have a choice, and you always choose to hurt him, to varying degrees."

"You think I'm God?" Hannibal says.

[herr_bookman]

"No," Autor says, wrinkling his nose. "I think you're a human with free will, who chooses what to do with his actions. I also think you hold responsibility for them, too, but that is probably where we differ."

"And you think free will is tantamount with complete and utter choice in life?" Hannibal asks.

[herr_bookman]

"Well, no," Autor says, momentarily thrown. "But you can't claim in all due conscience that your hurting him after he betrayed you wasn't your choice."

"There was the minute matter of me getting away with my life and freedom intact," Hannibal says, tilting his head minimally at Autor.

[herr_bookman]

"Still a choice, although it's not a very attractive one at that point, I'll admit," Autor says, once again wishing for more tea. "I don't know all the details, but I suspect you could have left before incapacitating him."

"Do I care about him enough to sacrifice my freedom to his wellbeing?" Hannibal says. "That's what seems to be the question here."

[herr_bookman]

"I don't know," Autor says, raising a brow. "Do you? Your actions say that you don't."

"Perhaps," Hannibal says, "my actions were a compromise between my feelings for Will, and my natural desire for freedom."

[herr_bookman]

Autor snorts again. "It doesn't seem like much of a compromise," he says. "I'm beginning to think you panicked, and hurt him because he was crimping your wings."

"You think I would panic?" Hannibal asks, sounding amused.

[herr_bookman]

Autor looks him over, watching the tubes rise as he inhales. He smiles, a little, and shakes his head. "All right, maybe you wouldn't. Still," he says. "The validity of your feeling might be in question, or at least in the manner in which you express them."

"My feelings are my feelings," Hannibal says, "and as I'm the one feeling them, my subjective observation is absolutely valid, and their expression is authentic."

Autor can't argue that. Damn. He never thought he'd be discussing feelings with Hannibal, of all people. "Even when you hurt him?" the boy asks, running his thumb across his cup again. "For all your regret, I can't imagine you wouldn't do it again."

"Hurting him hurts me," Hannibal says. "It's a feeling I don't like, so I tried to do it as little as possible."

Autor raises a brow. "I'd think you failed there, if he's at the point where you're 'sure he'll survive."

[cook_the_rude]

"He is not at a point where I'm sure he will die," Hannibal points out. "My world is more interesting with Will Graham in it. Somewhere."
