Hannibal Lecter, visiting post

If anyone wants to see Lecter, the opportunity is there.

He has tubes all over the place, and a sensor alarm in the bed that alerts medical staff should he try to bugger off or jump up at anyone, so you're probably quite safe.

Guppy will be keeping an eye on him for the first 48 hours or so, but feel free to have visiting medics come in to relieve him.]

"He is not at a point where I'm sure he will die," Hannibal points out. "My world is more interesting with Will Graham in it. Somewhere."

Autor stretches his neck a little. "I suspect that when you two meet again, the result will be the same," he says. "Your life may be more interesting with Will Graham in it, but he doesn't get a choice, does he?"

"I am certain his life has been much more interesting because I entered it," Hannibal says. "He wanted me to leave, not catch me..."

"Ha, more interesting, perhaps, but more pleasant? Likely not," Autor says, tracing the teacup's handle idly. "I can't possibly speculate as to his reasoning behind him wanting you to leave. Perhaps he wanted the chase to continue? Though I wouldn't know why he'd want that."

"In the end, he did not want to see me brought down," Hannibal says.

Autor frowns at that, watching his teacup rather than the tubes. "Why?" he asks, though he already thinks he knows the answer.

"I must have genuinely touched something in him," Hannibal says. "As I always knew I would. He couldn't have got so close to me without getting close."

"Ah," Autor says, feeling weary. "Why are you telling me this, Hannibal?"

"You're still my apprentice," Hannibal says. "Whether you acknowledge it or not, you're a lot like me. You could turn vegan if you'd like, and would still be a lot like me."

[herr_bookman]

"Well, I'm vegetarian--part of the way there already," Autor says, and his tone is falsely light. "But we're not..."

He pauses, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I'm going to regret this, but remind me why you think I'm at all like you?"

"You poke," Hannibal says. "You prod. You analyse. People are food for your thought, for your schemes. You plan for eventualities. You trust only yourself. You want to see what happens."

Autor smiles, but it's brief. "I actually don't poke as much anymore," he says, keeping his tone light. "I'm getting rusty. And I do trust more people, now." Rae, for one.

He adjusts his glasses. "But I admit that I do want to see what happens, most of the time--but that's only natural, don't you think? That's just... part of being alive."

"No," Dr. Lecter says. "Most people want to help, and stop things from happening. But really, it's more interesting to see Les Misérables unfolding despite Milliways, rather than try and make them all less miserable."

Autor groans, shaking his head. "Hannibal," he says, rather seriously indeed, despite the grin, "that is terrible. The French can be fairly miserable by themselves, it's true, and what they get up to is undoubtedly interesting."

He folds his arms. "We may share that in common, then, but I still insist that I'm unlike you. It's the principle of the thing, you see," he says. "I should probably let you rest."

"Yes, do retreat, Autor," Hannibal smiles. "You've run out of argument and need to consult the dossiers. Did I ever tell you about the mnemonic technique of the Memory Palace? You'll never need all that paper again."

Autor purses hi lips, annoyed. "There's nothing wrong with a tactical retreat," he mutters, clinging to his tea cup. "And you've mentioned the Memory Palace, once, but never went into detail."

"I will, the next time we meet," Hannibal says. "It's very, very helpful."

[herr_bookman]

"Oh, now you're just teasing me," Autor says, shaking his head again. "I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Until next time, then."

Tue prickly boy bows at the waist and wanders off, certainly not to consult his dossiers.

"Ta-ta," Hannibal says, cheerfully, before closing his eyes with a deep breath.
