Jason, having been unconscious since Saturday night, has started to come around.

Nat is curled around him in the bed, sleeping and helping with the healing.

Guppy (or later Zhaan) is nearby, keeping an eye on any visitors.

"That would be best," Zhaan says. "We will not do anything until you are ready. Until then, I will be near if you need me."

Jason snuggles against Nathaniel. "Thank you, Zhaan. I'll give you a shout when I'm ready."

There's the attempt at a smile and then his eyes close.

As Jason drifts off, Zhaan turns to Nat. "If you are familiar with his physiology," she says quietly, "I could use your help. And perhaps in other matters as well."

Nathaniel is terribly reluctant to part from Jason, but as he can hear how deep the wolf's breathing is, how steady the heartbeat, he nods. He slips from the bed, bare feet silent on the floor, and walks to a quiet, dim corner. He's still close enough to get to Jason swiftly, but far enough away that speaking quietly shouldn't bother him too much.

He gazes at her warily.

"What do you need to know?" he murmurs.

"First I would like to know if werewolves have bad reactions to any herbs," Zhaan says, "and also about their metabolism. I do not want to give Jason too much or too little medicine."

Nathaniel glances at Jason.

"The best thing I can give you for reference is something that would knock a human out for eight to ten hours, we burn through in two. As for herbs... none that we know of."

"I think I can compensate for that," Zhaan says. "Are you vulnerable to any substances other than silver? Jason said no, but...I am not sure he was in a condition to remember clearly." After a moment, she adds, "I know these may seem like uncomfortable questions, but I want to be able to treat Jason effectively. And since this is about a patient, I will treat it as a confidential matter."

"They aren't uncomfortable. Uncomfortable might be to ask me when Jason last had a prostate exam."

Nathaniel crosses his arms low over his chest.

"Silver and fire and catnip. That's it for us."

He's lying about the catnip, but he wants to see her reaction.

What does it say about Zhaan that she takes him at his word?

"There isn't any catnip in any of my medicines, so he should be fine."

He nods.

"If you have to inject him with something, you need to use a silver need. Anything else and we immediately heal around them."

A shudder passes through his body as he remember his own body healing around non-silver items.

"Most of my medicines aren't injected. They are design to be ingested or inhaled. But I will keep that in mind."

"All right."

His eyes dart to Jason.

"If he shifts, the physical withdrawal will be lessened. He won't hurt so much going through it. Shifting heals us faster. Also, sleeping or touching the pack helps the healing go faster, too. It's why I will not leave him unless Liz is here."

"Any help you can provide will be appreciated. To me or to Jason. He will need the support of his loved ones if he is to overcome his addiction."

"I know."

He remembers vividly how much harder it had been with only the help of Gabriel and Raina, who hadn't really cared much about what he'd gone through.

"It's a matter for pack and pard. We'll take care of him."

Zhaan's smile has relief and warmth in it. "Such trials are better weathered with good friends."

Nathaniel gives a nod and pads back over to Jason, crawling in beside his best friend. He nuzzles Jason's throat, his arm flung around the wolf's waist, and sighs softly.

The scent of pack soothes him, lulls him, and he slowly sinks down into sleep for as long as he's able before Jason wakes him up again.
