Guppy's Birthday Party

Inside the Infirmary all looks normal, save for a cordoned and partitioned of area to the side.

Behind the partition the normally quiet and simple looking Infirmary has been transformed. Across the top of the wall opposite the partition, there are some banners strung up that read 'Happy Birthday!'. Many balloons line the walls and partition.

Upon a set of tables along the wall, there is a 3 layer cake that reads 'Happy Birthday Guppy', a veggie platter, a fruit platter, a sandwich platter, and an assortment of snacks, from potato chips to a platter of various cookies (chocolate chip, chocolate-chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter, and sugar cookies with sprinkles on top.

An area in front of the tables has been cleared for dancing and a radio sits in the corner with a disk in it that has a mix of music from Amanda's club.

"Oh I didn't think it would. The other flashbacks were caused by things that were related to the assault."

A small nagging thought enters his brain at this point which reminds him that Amanda might not, and in fact doesn't, know about that and he really shouldn't have told her. He tries to distract her from his mistake.

"I'm okay thanks. And Scampi made a very successful catch of a spider in the kitchen this morning."

Amanda catches it but puts it to the back of her brain for future recollection so as not to ruin the mood of the party.

"Oh really, he is becoming quite the hunter then, Spiders of the world beware." she jokes.

"Yeah, he's quite good with socks too. But he won't touch mice."

"Give it time." she smiles. leaning in closer, "There aren't mice in your flat are there?"

"No, not in the house, but there was one in the shed the other day and he wouldn't go near it."

Amanda laughs, "That is so cute. Sorry I missed it."

"I think he was trying to talk to it. He didn't have much luck whatever he was doing."

"Too bad. I'm sure he'll do better next time. How about you. Taken on any mice lately?"

"Not lately." Abs grins. "We don't get many. Although I chased the one Scamps left."

"My hero." she makes a fake swoon. "Anything interesting going on at the hospital?"

"Apparently we've got a new bigwig coming in tomorrow, other than that it's the medium busy time where we have winter related illnesses but are between the rushes of bonfire night and Christmas."

"Guppy told me about that." shaking her head. "People really shouldn't play with fire if they don't know what they are doing."

"Too right they shouldn't. We're almost unanimously agreed in the department that you should have to have a licence."

"How is Nina doing?"

"Good. She's made close friends with one of the other nurses so she's happy at the moment."

He hides the jealousy well.

"That is good to hear. I don't suppose you guys get much time off for fun."

"We get some time, but it's not always at a sociable time of day."

"Hmm, do you guys ever get a vacation?"

"Well yes, it wouldn't be legal not to. But Guppy's used most of his up this year I think. I still have some left."

Nodding, "Well if he stills has time off coming then we can see what we can do about maxinimzing it." Grinning, the power of Milliwats at work.

"I think right now he needs to sort out all his problems back home. He's acknowledged that he can't hide from them here. The next few weeks, months even, are still going to be tough."

"I'm in no rush." Amanda has a thing where she is fine with running from a problem for centurues at a time. Running is something she is rather good at.

"Are you planning to stick around?"

"Until I'm no longer welcome." grins, "I go home for work and to see friends but otherwise I like being here. I get to meet great people like you and Guppy."

You won't think that of me soon.

"Good. He needs people he can rely on around here. He's under a huge amount of stress and is going to need all of us."
