Infirmary Thread for Hank McCoy

It's the nature of work in the Infirmary; either the days are really quiet... or they're really, really not.

And now suddenly it's really not.

Joly's moving to bring out one of the tables for super-powered patrons as soon as the visitors walk in. "Hello, have a seat-- there-- if you can." If he's startled, he doesn't sound like it. He reaches out to help the apparent patient over to the examining table.

Hank feels much better after a few hours of sleep. Well, his body does at least. His emotional state is something else entirely. Earlier, one of the rats brought him a gown to change into and he had made the mistake of looking in a mirror. Folly and ignorance, be thine in great revenue...

He is now sitting up in bed and staring at his clawed hands and wondering just what he is and what he will do. Aside from saving the world from Shaw that is.

Enzo checks in on him.

"Hey, man. You feeling better?"

Hank starts at Enzo's question but smiles, being careful not to show his teeth, to soften the awkwardness.

"Some what. I am rested and the transformation seems to have settled. Thank you, again, for your help."

"No problem. What actually happened? Transformation, I got that, but, y'know, context. If you don't mind my asking."

"I am a mutant. Unfortunately, one of my mutations was feet that were more simian than human. I created a serum that was designed to suppress the physical mutation without hindering my other gifts. I...made a miscalculation somewhere. The serum enhanced the physical mutations instead."

Monkey feet sound pretty awesome to Enzo, but this doesn't seem like the time to say so.

"Got it. Are you going to try again?"

Hank tilts his head to the side, getting a good look at Enzo, and blinking a few times as new sensory signals register.

"I do not believe so, no." He says in a distracted tone. It is true, for the most part. Years will pass before he tries anything like this again. "I would not wish to find out what else I can make of myself through folly."

Enzo nods. Understandable. "And you're sure it was just the transformation process that was the problem, not anything, um, inherent? Maybe we should keep you under observation for a little while."

"I am certain there is nothing else, but a period of observation would be prudent. I miscalculated with the serum, so it is conceivable that I am misjudging if the transformation is complete or not. Not to mention the stress it has put on my body."

Enzo nods again. It's nice when patients are sensible and know what their own deal is.

"Keep us updated, then, since you know more about your situation than I do. Let the rats know if you need anything. That's Work Experience there, and that's Backup. I'm Enzo Matrix, by the way."

"I shall do so," he replies with a smile. "And it is a pleasure to meet you. I'm Hank McCoy. I actually am on staff with the Infirmary as well. Mostly as a first responser but I am studying to assist further."

"Oh!" Enzo looks a bit sheepish. "I work with Guppy the most often, I really don't know everyone."

"I haven't been in as much as I would like as well." Hank replies right before a jaw cracking yawn seizes him. "Excuse me. I fear I should get some rest, but I hope we may speak more in the future?"

"Oh, sure! I'll see you later. You want the lights down a little?"

Guppy has a rough idea what to expect when he gets the note. He knew the old Hank after all, as one of his dearest friends.

So the first thing he does is not look shocked, as he comes over to Hank.

"Hey." he says gently, putting a hand on Hank's shoulder. "I know it doesn't feel like it right now, but you're going to be okay."

Hank's brows knit as he ponders Guppy words.

"Your words might suggest some knowledge of my future." He muses as he turns his hands so that the claws are not facing Guppy. An attempt to show he is not a threat, though Guppy doesn't seem to see him that way.

"An alternate version of you helped found this infirmary." Guppy says. "He was a close friend of mine, and he was blue and fluffy too. He was educated and gentle, he loved poetry and literature, he was loyal and kind, and all who knew him understood that."

The idea is stunning to Hank but it gives him hope.

"Fluffy," he repeats with a laugh. "The idea seems improbable but I believe you. Perhaps it should be what I can make of my life, though I do not see how."

"Well, of note, he was also not only a respected professional and expert, and X-man, he had an active romantic life in here." Guppy says.

"That is...of some encouragement," Hank replies thickly. Does his blue fur hide his blush? Who knows!

Kind of!

"Can I get you anything?" Guppy asks, giving his shoulder a squeeze.

"Some water would be good. Even with the IVs, I'm feeling parched."

Guppy gets him some.

"We may need to increase your IV rate then." he says. "I didn't see your alternate version go through the transformation itself, so we will have to keep an eye on you."
