"Okay, just relax." Guppy smiles reassuringly at Glorfindel.
Fortunately for him, the future offers a needleless option, so it's just a matter of pressing a small tube to his arm, which hisses, and then once he's out, putting a tube down his throat to help him breathe while it's done.
Watching the tube go in is somewhat unsettling. But also fascinating.
He cannot help mentally tallying all of those instances where it would have made a world of difference.
He nods at Guppy and then he sets about dealing with the wound. The old bandages are removed and the wound is cleaned. He examines it throughly, but it seems he was right. What internal damage that had been done, has been dealt with.
He stitches it methodically, with neat and even stitches, and when he is done he takes a step back and looks at the result.
"That should be serviceable," he says and then he looks at Guppy. "Or what say you?"
"It will disappear on its own," Elrond replies. "Either on this body or the next."
He looks very tired, all of a sudden. And sets about binding the wound again. Slowly and methodically.
"It is not the first time this has come to pass, but when I first saw him, I feared it would be the last. The wound was deeper and it had been cut with an evil blade. Poisonous in more ways than one."
"We have been at war for millennia. Glorfindel gave his life when the city of Gondolin fell, but he had sworn to protect his lord and his lord's family. When he was rehoused - it is what we call it when those who have lost their lives are given a new body - he asked to be allowed to return to Middle-earth. To fulfill his oath. His lord was dead then. And his son had left the world. But I was there. And so he dedicated himself to my service. When I left - when I leave for the lands in the West, he will stay behind to guard my sons. That is what he was doing when he was hurt."
His eyes look misty.
"He was tired and worn. And perhaps I should not have interfered. But I couldn't let him suffer, and I could not let him go."

"It will make everything easier and faster."

"All yours."

"Shall I wake him slowly, give him some time to rest?"

"He's resting now, he's breathing on his own."

There cab be no doubt that it is heartfelt.
"I shall stay here till he wakes."
