Guppy hates being an inpatient. But after the half-finished extension caved in on him yesterday, despite Enzo's excellent work, he felt so awful he decided he probably ought to stay in.

The next morning, he's sitting on the bed, his right arm in the sling, doing infirmary paperwork with his left hand.

Someone should probably tell him off.

Teja appears, with Scampi on his arm, hoping he will not be kicked out for bringing an animal to the sick-room.

But then, who should kick him, with Guppy laid up?

"Hey Teja. Thanks for looking after Scampi." Guppy says.

He looks too tired to put up much protest.

"At this point," Teja says, "one more cat will not make much of a difference. There is a whole pack now, it seems, hunting mice and demonic rabbits, and following me inside whenever I step into the bar."

[guppy_sandhu]

"Who else have you got?" Guppy asks. "Last time I looked you had four."

[ostro_goth]

"Sometimes, William's little Horus falls in with my gang, especially as they are teaching him to hunt and will ever share their tuna with him," Teja says.

[guppy_sandhu]

"You could start a cat teaching school." Guppy says. "I hope he's not been too much trouble or eating you out of house and home."

After spending a bit of the morning out working in the stables, Doc showers and then heads into the infirmary, peeking his head around the door frame (and knocking gently against it) before he steps inside fully.

"I ain't botherin' your work, am I?"

Even if he's pretty sure that Guppy shouldn't be working in this condition.

Guppy looks tired out and indeed probably shouldn't be working; mostly he picked up the paperwork to avoid thinking about the beam that nearly fell on his head.

"Hey Doc. And no, not at all. Just trying to make myself useful." Small smile. "Probably going to self-discharge as soon as I can bring myself to move."

"You sure that's really wise?"

He moves into the room.

"It might not be all that bad of an idea t'heal up another day or two, 'fore you try headin' out."

(Mainly because Guppy looks like he might fall over.)

[guppy_sandhu]

"Point. Might freak Fran out less if I don't go back looking like this."

Guppy pulls the sling back to reveal the impressive collection of bruises and grazes down his arm. They extend down his side as well, but that's covered by his nightshirt.

"She and the kids are out at the supermarket so at least I know they were nowhere near the collapse."

[scurlock]

"What in the Lord's name did you do?"

Those are some horrible looking bruises - Doc moves closer on instinct, to get a somewhat better look.

"Or I suppose I should ask - is there someone that did this to you?"

"Feeling better, or just ANSI?"

It's likely that particular pun won't even be noticed when spoken out loud. There's a reason it was only ever on the ReBoot trading cards. In reference, unsurprisingly, to Enzo himself.

"I feel kind of beaten up." Guppy admits. "But better than yesterday. Thanks again for your help."

[a1enzo]

"No problem. You want company, or, I dunno, a movie or something?"

Enzo won't try to tell him not to do anything. He tends toward restlessness himself. But there are ways to be occupied without being physically active.

"I could do with distraction." Guppy admits.

"Okay, what? Movies?" He grins. "Private concert?"

"...okay, one, I'm pretty sure you're meant to be doctoring, not ... patienting," Steph says, hovering quizzically in the doorway, head tilted. "And two ... do you want me to write that for you? You look a bit, you know. In pain."

[guppy_sandhu]

"Nah, I'm just passing the time." Guppy puts the work to one side for a moment, with a wince.

"Hey Steph. I'll be okay, just a, er, wall sort of fell on me."

"A wall fell on you?"

Steph looks around, dubiously, before coming into the room to give him a Very Doubtful Look.

"Does that happen often? Can I go beat it up to show it what happens if it messes with my friends?"

[guppy_sandhu]

"Ridiculous as that sounds, that actually is what happened." Guppy says. "You could come beat up my builders if I knew where they were."

[stuck_mynock]

"You should know better," Atton says without any force behind it, leaning in the doorway, "some might accuse you of setting a bad example for the other patients."

[guppy_sandhu]

"For working or for getting hurt?" Guppy asks. "Hey Atton."

[stuck_mynock]

"Working," Atton says, pulling a chair over and sitting backwards on it, folding his arms over the back of it. "No doubt it can wait."

[guppy_sandhu]

Guppy puts it down.

"I was just trying to look like I was... less patienty. Though the sling is obviously a bit of a giveaway."

[stuck_mynock]

"You have a general aura of 'patient', yes," Atton remarks. "Had many visitors? I can smell that Teja and Steph have been here."
