When the door slams open with enough force to send it ricocheting off the wall behind it, it is accompanied by a voice raised in the exact tone of urgency and worry and DO THIS NOW that everyone who has ever worked in an ER is trained to respond to.
"MEDIC!" The Bright Shiner roars as he carries Charlie over to the nearest table without the slightest pause. Yrael has cast what healing spells he can without the use of his hands, to slow the loss of blood (already so much lost), but healing has never been his forte and he knows when he is outmatched. Charlie needs a doctor.
"He and Teja were attacked, out in the woods," Yrael says, ignoring the call for gloves and moving directly to put pressure on the wound. He knows he carries nothing that would lead to the infection of Charlie's wound. Much to the contrary. "Teja is dead, and Charlie has lost a lot of blood."
Now that he must talk, there is little tone to Yrael's voice, urgency banking the fires of rage and grief.
Yrael moves to comply. "Direct me, and I will do what I can."
Teja and Charlie had been out in the woods together, being in love together, acting on that love and happiness the other called up in them. And had been attacked, in their happiness, all joy cut short by pain and loss.
Yrael's face is grim, his rage held back only by the need to keep Charlie alive.
Guppy administers hypospray painkillers and anaesthetic - risky without a second medic, but there's no choice - and sets about trying to stem the blood flow. He ties off anything he can, and inserts a chest drain to help reinflate the collapsed lung.
"It's a miracle it didn't hit his heart." he says as he starts to get control of the situation. "What was the weapon?"
He puts another bag of blood up, changes gloves and carries on.
"I didn't see any weapon," Yrael says, helping in whatever way he can.
"Teja had been hit in the chest, and whatever it was seems to have hit Charlie as well. I didn't exactly stop to look very closely," he admits, his words almost more of a growl than a voice.
Yrael trusts Guppy to give it his all. If Charlie begins to slip away, though, Yrael will not hesitate to pull Charlie's spirit back from Death. Rules and Abhorsens be damned.
"Yes. He is dead," Yrael says, getting a wet cloth and helping to clean the blood from Charlie. The sensation of something wet against his skin, which usually would cause him to recoil, seems not even to register. "I checked."
Guppy takes a deep breath and carries on. He can't afford to get emotional now. It's almost autopilot. Adrenaline and atropine to keep his heart going. More fluids. Checking his airway, breathing, circulation, keeping him going.
"What good will Security be?" Yrael says, unkindly, the care he shows in wiping the dried blood from Charlie's face (not Charlie's blood, but from Teja) in complete opposition to his tone.
"You took some sort of penetrating wound to the chest." Guppy says. "We're not sure how it happened yet. You lost a lot of blood, so you must keep still and rest."
He shoots a warning glance at Yrael not to tell him about Teja yet. He's in no fit state.
"A blocker would be nice," he says, because it still feels like there's something weighing his chest down so he can't get a full breath.
He looks around the infirmary to see if Teja's there; whatever hit him must have hit Teja unless it came through the tree. "You kick Teja out already?"
"He's resting." he says. "I'm sorry, he can't be here with you right now."
He hates lying to Charlie, but he can't afford for the guy to get distressed right now; the shock might undo all the hard work they just did. If necessary he'll have to sedate him.
"Once we get you taken care of, we'll go out to see if we can figure out what happened to you both, and possibly who caused it," Yrael says, both calm and calming. Focusing on what is to be done, not the why.
Charlie lays his head back with a slow nod. He'd kind of figured something had happened; but Guppy and Yrael don't sound incredibly worried. "I'll sneak out later, then," he half-jokes.
"Thanks." He's been a better patient this go around, mostly because he was entirely unconscious. "I have...no idea what happened," he says, and starts to cough, grimacing because that really hurts. "Ow."
"You're not dying." Guppy says. "But you were in a bad way when we brought you in. You had a collapsed lung amongst other things and you lost a fair bit of blood."
"Well, at least he has good taste in clothes," Charlie says. The chest drain is sort of disturbing him, actually, but he can deal as long as he's looking at Yrael and not at his chest.

"What happened?" he asks, alarmed as he checks Charlie's vital signs.
"Get some gloves on and put pressure on the wound."

He gets the IV line in, as the infirmary waitrat brings him a bag of O negative blood, which he hooks up.
"Okay, I need to stop the bleeding, press here, a bit further up." he says, moving over.

"There doesn't seem to be any fragments of whatever it was left in there."
He finishes stemming the blood flow and puts another drip in the other side in order to give Charlie more fluids.
"You can let go now." he says.

He is very weak, still. "Do you think he will live?"

Sudden thought.
"You're certain Teja is dead?"
He changes gloves and starts tidying and cleaning up the wound now that Charlie is in less imminent danger of bleeding out.

"When we can be sure Charlie will pull through, will you come with me to see what can be found out about this, out in the woods?"

"We'll need someone from Security. I spotted Shufti when I came in."

If it's Count's tail again the cat is so getting shut out of his bedroom. "Mmh." He'd push it away, but his arms feel like lead.

He puts one hand gently on Charlie's shoulder and uses the other to lift the oxygen mask momentarily.
"Can you open your eyes for me?"

"You're with friends, Charlie, and in the infirmary."

He blinks. "Yrael...and Guppy. What happened?"
