"This is Jason. He was beaten and stabbed," Yrael says, hurrying Jason over so he can lay him down. "Stabbed with silver, which complicates things horribly, and I think at least one of his ribs is broken."
"He's a werewolf. He heals more quickly than humans, except when silver is used. It burns him, and makes him heal as slowly as a human would from the same wound," Yrael answers, moving to roll up his sleeves. "The knife is still in him."
"Yrael, hold him down. Jason, my name is Guppy, I'm a doctor." Guppy says. "Please remain calm, I'm going to get the knife out as safely as possible, if you pull it out you may bleed to death. This is an oxygen mask, I want you to take deep breaths."
He looks up at Yrael. "Will painkillers and anaesthetic work on him?"
Yrael moves to brace Jason, keeping his arms still and holding the oxygen mask over his mouth and nose. "Calm, Jason, calm down. We'll get you fixed up," his voice is low, assured.
Like hell is he letting his brother die.
"They should," he nods at Guppy. Then he adds, "though he'd probably heal over anything left in him long enough. I don't know if you have any silver...?" Yrael doesn't know medical terminology.
Yrael moves his hand to brush it comfortingly back through Jason's hair, as he translates for him. "It'll take a lot of painkillers and anesthetics," he says, stumbling a bit over the last word. "His metabolism is such that he'll go right through them."
"Jason, you have to keep still, every time you move the knife moves inside you."
Guppy manages to fill in the gap after 'silver' and suddenly has a brainwave.
"Needles won't work, right?"
He goes to a nearby cupboard and grabs a couple of hyposprays; one pain relief, one sedative, one for spinal anaesthesia.
"Can't risk putting him under." he says. "He might come out of it too quickly."
He presses the hypospray of pain relief into Jason's arm - the medication should be able to transfer through the skin without a needle. He repeats this with the sedative and waits to see if there is any effect before he'll attempt the spinal anaesthesia one.
He's never used that one before, but there's no way they could put a needle in the man's spine with him thrashing around all over the place.
Jason whimpers again. "...think 'm gonna be sick..."
The hypospray presses into his arm and he jumps involuntarily, but then the effects are almost immediate. He noticeably calms, though the whimpering continues.
Maybe because he can still see the knife in him, even if the burning is lessened by the drugs, however short-lived they may be.
Guppy follows it up with some anti-sickness medication, but puts a vomit bowl nearby for good measure.
"Okay Jason, that's it. Now in a moment we're going to get Yrael to help me roll you onto your side, and I'm going to give you some anaesthetic into your spine so we can get the knife out with minimal pain, and some more sedative so that you feel more relaxed. Just before we do that, is there anything else I should know that might affect your treatment?"
The pain lessening is leaving him very...tired, and he knows it won't be long before the pain is back in full. He hasn't had any coke since he shifted the night before, so he doesn't mention it.
Yrael glances at Jason, before turning to Guppy again. "He's been doing a lot of cocaine, lately, but there doesn't seem to be any in his system at the moment." The sweat on him now smells clean enough.
"Thanks for the heads' up. That's not healthy but it shouldn't be too much of an issue right now. Okay, let's roll him on three. One, two, three."
He quickly injects the hypospray at the right level. Jason should begin to feel numb from there downwards.
"Okay, roll him back." Guppy says. He waits a minute, applying pressure to the wound in the meantime, while the anaesthetic kicks in. His other hand gets the scanner and runs it over the area, looking for what has been hit. Bowel has a good habit of moving out of the way, but he can't be sure how long the knife is.
Yrael is as gentle as possible, supporting Jason as he is moved and laid back down.
"How is it?" Other than bad, he means.
Ruin should be glad he's safe inside the cells. Yrael has a long memory, has long experience keeping a grudge, and has a good record at not getting caught.
Guppy looks at the scan, and gives Jason some more sedative.
"It's missed the stomach and pancreas, which is good, but it's nicked some of the bowel."
He passes a box of hyposprays to Yrael.
"I'm going to need you to give him some of these in a moment, but first I have to scrub up. Apply pressure here, and talk to him about something other than his abdomen."
Guppy scrubs up much quicker than he ought to, but he hasn't got time to waste here. He comes back, and begins the process of removing the knife, giving Yrael instructions of when to inject which hypospray.
He goes more quickly than he would normally, tying off anything bleeding and sewing anything that's broken. The spinal will wear off soon, and he knows it.
"Yrael, do you know if we can get a silver cannula?" he asks, as he finishes sewing Jason up from the front. "We desperately need to get fluids into him."
Yrael injects each hypospray with Guppy's instructions, while telling Jason about Cubefall, and the goings-on with that holiday. His meeting with the be-Cubefall'd Nikola Tesla, eagle!Teja, and doggy!Thirteen, and the sea dragon that was usually a man made of orange rocks. All the while, he rests his warm hand against Jason's temple.
He looks up at Guppy's question. "Maybe from Bar? Or, I could make one, really quick, once I know what one is."
He finishes sewing up and takes off his gloves, changing them. As he does so, he brushes against Jason's hand, and becomes aware that Jason's skin is very warm.
He gets the ear thermometer and does a quick temperature check.
"Okay, don't worry Jason, the surgery went well." Guppy says.
"We need to get some fluids into you, Yrael is making a silver cannula. I'm sorry if it's going to hurt, but it's really important to get you rehydrated and I'll take it out as soon as I can. I can give you some anti allergy medication if that would help."
"Please do." Guppy says. "I'll stay around as long as possible, though in a few days I'll need to transfer care to another member of the team, because I have to go on a quest. He needs lots of rest."
Following a brief moment of light, a large, panther-sized white cat is stretching out next to Jason along his uninjured side, radiating a strong, steady warmth.

The door opens with enough force to make it recoil with a loud crack off the wall behind it.
Then Yrael is coming through the door, the beaten and bloody Jason in his arms. The hilt of Ruin's silver knife still sticks out from his side.
"We need a medic here!" Yrael says, loudly, putting every last possible ounce of urgency and necessity into his words, for any who hear.

"Yrael, who is this and what happened?" he asks, gloving up.

"'ve been in worse."
What's sad is the fact that it's true, and his injuries had been far worse. But that's life, right?
