The infirmary is quiet, until CJ carries Shufti in. Labour tends to be a bit on the noisy side.

Straight to a bed, set her down as comfortably as possible considering how big she is, and rush to find the doctor!

Guppy is already coming out of the office, having heard the noise.

"Is it time?"

"Yeah, Doc... she is ready." CJ is doing a great job of hiding how nervous he is.

Not.

"How far apart are the contractions?" Guppy asks, going over to Shufti and running the scanner over her.

"Every couple of minutes." She replies, grimacing. "Started regular this morning."

Guppy draws the curtain around her, gives her some pain relief to inhale then checks how dilated she is.

"You're right, you're close. Soon as the contractions are a minute apart, you can push, okay? Have you seen a birth before CJ?"

Because the man looks terrified.

"Nah. But I am staying." He is not leaving his wife alone right now. Or later. CJ moves close to the bed, holding Betty's hand, leaning close to kiss her forehead.

"Love you, babe..."

"Love you too." She winces. "Even with your height."

It doesn't take long before she's ready to push, and she grasps CJ's hand tightly as the contraction comes. Guppy moves around to be in the right place.

"If you're going to faint CJ, there's a chair behind you." He says.

The man shakes head at the question, letting Betty squeeze his hand, waiting... staying close to her, holding her hand while their second child is born.

It doesn't take long, in fact as births go, it's pretty easy and before either parent can say 'I can see the head' Guppy is lifting a little bundle of joy onto Shufti's tummy.

"Congratulations, you've got a girl."

Shufti grins at CJ, then bursts into happy but exhausted tears as she cradles the infant.

CJ can not stop smiling, he kisses his wife and holds her close. "Thanks doc... thank you."

Betty is held gently. "She is beautiful, love..."

"She looks like her daddy." Shufti says, grinning up at him.

The baby is too busy crying about the trauma of being born for the moment to understand the sentiment of it, but she soon subsides.

"We need to do a couple of checks." Guppy says, "then I'll leave you to it."

Checks quickly confirm a healthy baby weighing in at an impressive 8 lbs 2 oz.

CJ will relax more when all checks okay, nodding to Guppy but focusi9ng back on his wife. And their first daughter. "I hope Jack will not get jealous... much." Some jealousy can not be avoided.

Guppy leaves them to it.

Shufti smiles. "I think a girl won't upset the balance of power too much too quickly." Looking up at CJ. "Ready to hold her?"

"I hope so..." The answer applies to both statement and question. He will be very careful with it and with her.

She moves up so he can sit, then passes the baby over.

Cje Picks her up, carefully, holding his daughter close. What could he say right now? Nothing worthy of the moment, so he says nothing.
