Recovery, such as it is, has been both painful and tedious.
He does what he's told, and he does his best to ignore the pain; he goes over the sitrep Saul gave him in his head.
He thinks about religion, and why and how people say they're receiving messages from the gods.
He sleeps, drugged.
He wakes, and he's sitting up in bed.
At his bedside is a cup of water, and a book. Should anybody come in, he'll be flipping through the latter, wire-rimmed glasses present and accounted for.

...Okay, maybe not.
But it obviously needs more mutants, which is why Kate is entering with a tray, holding one pot of coffee, two mugs, and three books.
"You haven't made a break for it yet?"

"My physician," he says, each word deliberate (and with the barest trace of a smile), "advises against it."

She's pouring already anyway.

He settles back, and his smile isn't so much a hint any more; it smells impossibly good. Impossibly normal.
"Thank you."

She pulls a chair over and straddles it before filling her own mug.
"How're you liking your enforced vacation?"
no subject
He takes a ginger sip -- and sighs.
"You know how long it's been," he says, "since I've had a decent cup of coffee?"
no subject
"What're you thinking about, then?"

Slowly, deliberately, he closes his book and removes his glasses.
He doesn't say anything. His mouth tightens.
no subject
"Dad, I..."
no subject
A soft click as he sets his glasses on the bedside table; the movement makes him wince.
no subject
"I understand... I'm sorry..."
no subject
"I'd wondered."
He can feel himself losing control -- can feel his face wanting to twist, his voice wanting to roughen. "Thank you. For coming."
no subject
By way of explanation as to why he came. He couldn't not, he's his father. He crumples the note in his fist again.
"You said I should follow my instincts."
As to why he did what he did.

It's a statement. Bill's glance is somewhere in the vicinity of the opposite wall.

"Lee tell you?"
no subject
*She smiles a little shyly*
Is this okay?
no subject
He glances up.
"Good to see you."
no subject
*She steps closer to the bed and her eyes get serious*
Commander...I know...I know what I did was wrong and I'm sorry.
no subject
"Okay, Starbuck." He looks up.
"Thank you."
Quiet, and sincere.
no subject
I wasn't around the first time this happened. Are you...doing okay?
