Guppy comes into the infirmary, helping Orlin, who is bleeding heavily from one leg.
"Okay, just lie down here." he says gently, flicking on the nearest monitor.
"Are you human Orlin?"
"Okay, just lie down here." he says gently, flicking on the nearest monitor.
"Are you human Orlin?"

no subject
"Mostly."
no subject
"Here, you'd be better off lying flat."
He sets the scanner to check for any other damage.
"I need a little more clarification on the 'mostly' part. I can't give you any human drugs unless I know they are safe to use on you."
no subject
"I'm an Ancient. I'm of the race that preceeded the modern evolution of the humans. So when I say mostly, I really mean more evolved."
no subject
"Okay, well that sounds like you might be okay, but I have no way of knowing unless we try it. It's up to you whether you want me to give you painkillers designed for humans. They may work as normal, or they may give you an adverse reaction which may be dangerous. Or they may not work at all. Considering the severity of your wound, I'm giving you the choice armed with the knowledge that it may be dangerous. Do you understand?"
He puts rubber gloves on then very gently examines the wound, satisfying himself that nothing major has been severed.
"Any loss of sensation, or pins and needles?"

He glances at Orlin's head. "Hey, stay awake for me Orlin. This shouldn't take too long. I need as much medical history as possible. You have any long term medical conditions I should know about? And did you see how long the blade was?"
no subject
"I have no idea. I haven't had a body to have a medical history in thousands of years. But I don't believe so."
Pausing, he thought back to the knife, "I'd say the blade was about five six inches."
no subject
He winces at the reported blade size.
"Okay, the scanner reckons you've been lucky. The blade hasn't severed any major vessels. I'm going to put some pressure on it and try to slow the bleeding more quickly."
He puts a large clean pad on the wound.

Guppy nods, drawing up a syringe of morphine.
"This is morphine, it should act pretty quickly. Let me know if you start to feel at all unwell, okay? Short sharp scratch coming up."
He injects the painkiller with barely a scratch.
"Your treatment is up to you now. Either I can sort out your wound with a device for healing skin quickly, or I can seal it with glue or stitches. In either case, you're going to have to take it very easy for a couple of days, but the skin healing device will allow you to be up and about more quickly."

It seemed that he had a fear of sharp pointy things that he hadn't known about.
"No more needles."
no subject
He glances at Orlin's face. "Take slow deep breaths. In through your nose, out through your mouth. The painkiller will kick in in a minute.
He gets the skin fuser.
"Hold still, this won't take long."
He cleans then sets to work on the wound, making sure to go as deeply as he can. The skin knits itself back together with a slightly warm tingly sensation.

He takes a couple of minutes, then passes it over.
"How does your leg feel?"
no subject
"Better? I mean, it doesn't feel like it's been stabbed just recently. But it's not one hundred precent either."
no subject
He approaches the other end of the bed.
"Right, now what did she do to your nose?"
no subject
Looking at it crosseyed orlin supplied the helpful anser of, "I think she bent it."
no subject
"Okay, that's definitely broken. I can fuse it with the bone fuser or strap it up in the right place."

"How are you feeling other than the obvious? Did she knock you out at all?"

He finishes Orlin's nose and checks to make sure it's still in line. He then passes him the ice from the waitrat, wrapped in a thin cloth.
"Providing you're going to go easy on your nose, you don't need to leave that on too long. How are you feeling, other than embarrassed?"

"Okay, well I'd like to keep you in at least overnight so that we can keep an eye on you. Our infirmary waitrat Aesclepius can get you anything you need in terms of food and drink." He pours the man a glass of water and puts it next to him.
"Your scan is okay at the moment, but we have to be careful with head injuries, even if you weren't knocked out."
no subject
"I know, thank you."
no subject
"I'll be just through there, in the office. Call me if you need me. The machines will tell me if anything else happens."
no subject
"Thanks Guppy."

He bustles around, checking the moniters for a moment, then heads into the office to write up the paperwork.
