(no subject)

Wellard seems to be quite doing better- or at least that is what he says, and keeps telling himself, as he eyes the calender.

Someone is getting released soon, and its not him.

Aside from watching the calender, he has a book, and a deck of cards handy- Though visitors are much more than welcome, now. Particularly if they bring news.

At the name, Wellard relaxes, and manages a bit of a smile. "Quite nice to meet you then, Mrs Tam. And... thank you, yes."

"Shiny." Kaylee grins at him and sets the tray on a nearby wheeled table, and takes off the cover. "Wasn't sure what you'd like, but...we got vegetable soup -- with the alphabet letters in there, that's always fun to try spellin' stuff out -- and a grilled cheese sandwich with tomatoes, and a couple of cookies. One with chocolate chips, and a snickerdoodle. I know a fella named Mike that swears by 'em."

This is Kaylee:

When in times of woe, eat a grilled cheese sandwich.

"I don't think I would argue with this Mike." Wellard has a not-so-secret sweet tooth. He does eye the rest of the food as well. "Unless everything else just looks like what I think it is, and isn't actually what it is, I do think it will be fine." He smiles.

"Great." She beams. "So -- you feelin' all right? Or better than you was, anyhow?"

"Quite so." Wellard starts in on the food, carefully. "Your husband is... quite a better doctor by far than the sort I had ever dealt with."

"Xiexie. I'll tell him you said so. He's one of the best." Proudly. "I'm glad he was here for you."

"I certainly am as well, as I am sure quite a few others are." Wellard smiles a bit sheepishly.

"Um. Is it alright to ask where you and the doctor are from, Mrs Tam?"

"'Course it is."

Even if...well.

You don't trust anybody, nobody trusts you. That's no way to live.

"Year's 2519 where we are, and we're from one of the 'verses with Earth in it. Only...folks are livin' on other planets now."

That is something Wellard is going to have to re-learn a bit on his own. At least Kaylee was connected to someone else he knew-

And she was not knitting.

He blinks, looking back up to Kaylee curiously. "With the flying ships? Are there other people here from your time and... worlds here as well?"

For the record, Kaylee can't knit.

At all.

"With the flyin', ships," she agrees. "And yeah -- whole crew's here, and -- other folks, too."

Some friendlier than others.

"Do you know a Mr Wash and Miss River, then? Mr Wash explained some digests that Miss River had gave me when we were talking about things when we first met. ... Explained quite a few things that she didn't." He shakes his head, with a bit of a wry smile.

"But he did go over a few things about the planets and ships."

"Shi a -- Wash is our pilot, and River -- she's my sister-in-law. Simon's sister." Kaylee beams. "They've been in, too?"

"Not here- but I met them before." Wellard nods, smiling. "And I do think it was Mr Wash that started me on the idea of flying ships."

"That'd make sense, considerin' he gets land-crazy after about three days out of the sky." Kaylee laughs. "So you're just used to the kind on water?"

"Quite, yes, and none at all that fly." He chuckles quietly. "I was an officer in His Majesty's Navy, before- so we were out to sea a good portion of the time."

"So I bet you get it -- about the whole land-crazy thing." Beat. "Do you?"

A bit of a wry smile, and a shrug. "At times. There is the lake outside, and... at least an outside to go and see, but it isn't quite the ocean."

"Still, there are worse places to end up, quite."

"Yeah." With sympathy.

Kaylee's pretty good at putting the pieces together by now.

"I know there are some folks here who've got folks from their time and place -- don't suppose there's anybody here like that for you?" A little tentative.

Wellard blinks, and then nods quickly. "Why- yes. A couple, though most are from slightly different times. However, Leuitenant Kennedy and I were on the same ship, until-" He smiles wryly, and shrugs.

"Though he is by far one of the better people that I would have hoped to see here. Then Mr Sharpe is a few years later, and he was in the army insted, but considering this place, you could almost say it is close enough."

"Then Captain Sparrow-" Wellard grins. "I had read stories about him when I was younger. It was a surprise to meet him here."

"Oh, shiny -- another military man?"

"Mr Kennedy and Mr Sharpe, yes." Wellard grins a bit.

"Captain Sparrow... is rather a pirate."

:D!, says Kaylee.

"You mean -- a real live pirate."

There are still pirate stories.

Pirate myths.

Wellard grins. "A real life pirate, Mrs Tam. I had some books, stories about him. Some I thought were just stories, but when I met him here, and had a chance to ask-"

Real Zombies.

" -- they weren't? They were true?"

"So he said, yes."

Granted, Jack's consistancy with the truth, and the truth to details in the stories themselves...

The general ideas are probably true.
